FW: 2007 DOCENT DAY OUT on Saturday, June 2

I would like to invite you to join a small group of docents and Education staff on our docent tour to the new Seattle Art Museum and Olympic Sculpture Park on Saturday, June 2! I know this is very short notice, but if it fits in your schedule, please consider joining us.

I have organized a car pool to Seattle, and museum admission and parking will be covered by Tacoma Art Museum. You will have to cover your own lunch – we are planning to eat at the SAM TASTE Restaurant in the museum, but you can also choose to eat elsewhere.

All the details are below.

Thanks for all you do!

Subject: TAM: car pool and other details for 2007 DOCENT DAY OUT on Saturday, June 2

Here are all the final details for our little trip to Seattle…

Car Pooling Details:

°         Heide will drive both ways and has room for 2 or 3 passengers, depending on if her husband Dan comes along.

°         Susan will be driving, but will probably not come to the Olympic Sculpture Park with us since she wants to take advantage of the opportunity to browse the Seattle Art Museum's teacher resources. We will meet her at Seattle Art Museum.

°         Ellen Shigeno will drive both ways and has room for 3 passengers, comfortably.

°         Terry Dew will be driving and will be taking Linda Flatley in her car. Terry, you and Linda can drive directly to Seattle, and meet us at Seattle Art Museum if you like.

Katrina and Penny, you can ride with either Ellen or myself to and from Seattle.

Karen Bell-Hanson (former docent and current TAM employee) will also car pool with someone, probably me.

Let's meet (meaning: Heide, Ellen, Penny and Katrina) in the Tacoma Art Museum parking lot at 9:30 am on Saturday, June 2.

The day will involve:

  • 9:30 am: Meet in Tacoma Art Museum parking lot, and car pool from Tacoma Art Museum to Seattle Art Museum.
  • 10:30 am: one-hour, docent-led tour of the newly re-opened Seattle Art Museum
  • 11:30 am: lunch at the new SAM TASTE Restaurant
I have scheduled 3 hours to eat lunch, look around SAM some more, and make our way to the Olympic Sculpture Park. Due to our small group size, we do not have a reservation for the TASTE restaurant but they recommended that we eat before 12:00 or after 1:00. We can discuss this more thoroughly on Saturday if 11:30 seems too early. We can eat later than that, but service will also take longer.
  • 2:30 pm: 90 minute, docent-led tour of the Olympic Sculpture Park (if we are tired at this point, I'm sure we can request a shorter tour)
  • Sometime after approximately 4:00 pm: car pool back to Tacoma Art Museum.

Price?

Tacoma Art Museum will cover the cost of museum admission, tours, and parking in Seattle.

Is lunch included?

No, lunch will not be covered by Tacoma Art Museum.

We plan to eat at the SAM TASTE Restaurant.

Can you bring your best friend?

You may invite a spouse or friend on this trip for free.

What should you wear?

The Olympic Sculpture Park is outdoors and covers 9 acres, and the tour does involve walking. Please wear your walking shoes and be ready for rain if we get so unlucky.

RSVP

Please answer the following questions when you RSVP:

Ÿ  Do you want to eat lunch at the SAM TASTE Restaurant?

Ÿ  Do you want to tour the Olympic Sculpture Park at 2:30 pm? This is a long day, and we realize that some of you may only choose to do the first half.

Ÿ  Are you bringing a guest?

Ÿ  Will you be a driver or a passenger in our car pool?

If you have any questions, let me know!

ARC Potluck Scheduled for June 14

ARC Volunteers-

Though I have not heard from all of you, it looks as though Thursday, June 14 is working for the majority of those who have gotten back with me so far. Therefore, the ARC Potluck is scheduled for June 14 starting at 5:30 pm in the classroom. This will also be a meeting of sorts, as we plan to announce some administrative changes that will be taking place in the ARC starting in July. Don’t worry; we’ll leave plenty of time to socialize!

Suggestions for potluck contributions:

If your first name starts with

A – J, bring a main dish

K – M, bring a salad or side dish

N – Z bring dessert

Tacoma Art Museum will provide beverages, plates, napkins, glasses, and silverware.

If you are able to attend (even if you already mentioned that you were available for this date) please RSVP so that I will know to expect you.

Thank you for all that you do for Tacoma Art Museum! We couldn’t do it with out you.

Best regards,

-Jana

Tacoma Art Museum ARC

ARC Volunteers-

I have a number of things to cover so I apologize if this email is a bit long (please look through it anyway!)

#1 The cataloguing project has been completed. Congratulations to Linda Martinez, Tom Wing, and Marcia Batchelor who have all been working on cataloguing! Now we need to reorganize all of the shelves. I will be sending the following out to all volunteers tomorrow, but I am hoping to see a healthy representation of ARC volunteers so please sign up, if you are available:

We need help Monday-Wednesday, May 21-23, to help with the re-labeling of the ARC book collection. The ARC will be closed from May 21-28 for the re-labeling and shifting.  If you are available to help during that time – even one shift would be of great help! – Please sign up.

Help ARC re-label the books that have been re-cataloged.  The work will be:

Matching labels to the correct book

Removing old labels if necessary

Attaching the new labels including placing tape over the new label

Sort re-labeled books for re-shelving.

Thanks for helping us finish this project.
