TAM Volunteers: A program happening tomorrow at UPS

Hello ARC Volunteers and Docents-

I wanted you to be aware of a program happening at UPS tomorrow because it sounds illuminating:

Description: http://www.pugetsound.edu/images/news/Morris,%20Aug%2011.jpg

Collins Memorial Library is honored to display portions of the private collection of Jack Walsdorf, one of the world’s leading authorities on William Morris and the Kelmscott Press. The free exhibit on the campus of the University of Puget Sound is on display until Friday, Oct. 14. Please check the Collins Memorial Library web site for current library hours.  A lecture will be held in the library 7-8 pm  Wednesday, Sept. 21st in room 020 by Jack Walsdorf.  The lecture is preceded by an informal reception in the exhibit space from 6-7.  Seating is limited to 50.

The books of the press are known for their distinctive illustrations and intricate borders. Morris used only red and black and some blue inks, and he designed three typefaces for use in the Kelmscott books: Chaucer, Troy, and Golden. All three are largely medieval in style. This look was later imitated by fine presses and commercial printers in England and the United States.

Jack Walsdorf, a librarian by profession, began collecting William Morris books in 1966, while working in the Oxford, England, public library. He wrote a book about the pleasures of collecting: On Collecting William Morris: A Memoir. An interview with Walsdorf can be read here.

FW: TAM ARC Volunteers: One Day in September.

Dear All,

Changes are going so fast. One day away from this desk and an open shift was already filled. Now only the AM shift is available on Friday the 9th; NOT the entire day!

Who is able to fill the morning shift? Let me know if you can…

Dear All,

Because of a cancelation I can now offer you 1 entire day in September! ;)  Yes, for Friday the 9th both shifts, AM/PM, are open. Who wants to spend an entire day at the museum? I’m sure the Relish Café has something nice to offer for lunch. Of course you can also take the morning OR the afternoon shift.

Let me know if you want/need to spend some time at the Librarian desk!

Have a wonderful (long) weekend…
