TAM Volunteers: ARC Meeting Cancelled in April & Notes on Success!

Hello ARC Volunteers-

I want to start off by thanking all of you who contributed to the success of last Saturday’s program Picture This: The Evolution of Children’s Book Illustration. ARC Volunteers contributed $1250 towards the program and countless hours developing the program, distributing postcards, making a display for the ARC, and so much more to make that day possible. We had 104 people in attendance who offered very favorable reviews on the surveys that were turned in. The speakers were also very positive in their feedback of the event during the reception hosted by Linda Martinez, Nancy Waltman, and Elsie Claypool. Thanks to all of you for making Tacoma Art Museum such an inspirational place to be!

Secondly, due to unpopular demand, I will need to cancel the meeting scheduled for Sunday, April 26. It was brought to my attention that perhaps it is best to wait for Fall at this point. I know that many of you have fun things scheduled in the summers and that timing is more miss than hit this time of year.

Given that I cannot discuss this at our meeting, I still wanted to approach you about the next proposed ARC programming idea presented by one of our industrious volunteers. Sarah Cross thought that it would be nice for the ARC to offer a story telling time in which an ARC volunteer would read a book or two to visitors as part of Tacoma Art Museum programming. That brings up a couple of questions, not least of which is whether any of you are interested in taking turns at doing the reading of said books. You could give suggestions of featured titles though Paula, Director of Education, will have final say on the books selected for the story time. We would want to feature books that tied into exhibitions in some way. Secondly, I would want your feedback as to timing on such an activity. I believe that we have narrowed down the day to Third Thursday but we are still open to a time – thinking so far runs towards late afternoon but we are open to suggestions. We would want to start this in the Fall so your feedback is very important now in determining if we move forward. For now, I need to know if you are 1) interested in being a reader and 2) What time you think would be most appropriate on Third Thursday to offer such a program.

Thank you for all that you do for Tacoma Art Museum!

-Jana

TAM Volunteers ARC Meeting Date

Hello ARC Volunteers-

It is getting trickier to set up meeting times that do not conflict with others’ schedules in the museum. I have scheduled an ARC meeting and potluck for Sunday, April 26 from 11 am – 1 pm.

At 1 pm, the following program will be taking place at Tacoma Art Museum for those that might be interested in sticking around:

Three Generations of Abstract Painters, 1:00 pm-4:00 pm

The 9th Northwest Biennial features three distinct generations of painters—Robert C. Jones, Denzil Hurley, and Eric Elliott. Each artist will discuss his work and then participate in a panel discussion about abstraction and reductivism. Charlotte Eyerman, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Saint Louis Art Museum, will discuss the history of abstract expressionism and its influence in contemporary painting.

Cost: $10; $5 for members.

Please let me know if you can attend the meeting on April 26 and if you are interested in joining in the potluck. If I do not get enough people who can participate, I will look at another time in the future.

Thank you,

-Jana

TAM Volunteers: Volunteer needed for March 28 Caldecott Program

Hello ARC Volunteers-

I need someone to assist on March 28 with the Caldecott program Picture This from 12:30 pm – 5 pm. Specifically, I need a volunteer to handle clock hours for teachers. I will show you how to do this (it is very simple) but it needs to be someone who is available for the entire program (maybe even until after 5 pm). The upside is that you can come to the program for free! If you are available and willing, please let me know.

Thank you,

-Jana
