Subject: extended hours on final weekend of St. John's Bible

Dear All,

We are extending the hours the museum will be open to the public the final weekend of the St. John’s Bible exhibition in anticipation of visitors wanting one last look.  Please note that on Saturday, September 6 and Sunday, September 7 we will remain open until 8:00 pm., instead of closing at 5 p.m. as usual.  Also, Sunday morning we will be open from 10 a.m. to noon only for museum members, as we’ve done twice before this summer.  Several senior managers will be here on the weekend to welcome visitors and members and respond to issues that arise.  You’ll also remember that we have one remaining Thursday evening where we’ll be open late, Thursday, September 4 and then we’ll revert back to our monthly Free Third Thursday schedule.

Please spread the word to reach all of those eager to see for the first time or revisit this remarkable exhibition during its final days in Tacoma.

Stephanie

Tacoma Art Museum ARC Shifts for September

Hello ARC Volunteers-

There will be 2 emails for the price of one today!

The shifts still needing filled in the ARC schedule for September are:

Monday, September 1                            1:30 – 5 pm

Thursday, September 18                         5 – 8 pm

Friday, September 5, 12, 19, 26               1:30 – 5 pm

Saturday, September 13, 27                    10 am – 1:30 pm

Saturday, September 6, 13, 20, 27           1:30 – 5 pm

Sunday, September 7, 14, 28                  12 – 5 pm

I would still like to see people take regular shifts on most weekend days and Wednesday mornings if any of you are able to take on a regular shift like that. If you can regularly take on the Third Thursday evening shift from 5 – 8 pm, that would also be helpful. Linda Gaines has patched that hole for a while now but it is certainly up for grabs for someone who likes the after 5 pm action.

Thank you,

-Jana

TAM ARC Meeting planned for August 28 at 5 pm

Hello ARC Volunteers-

At lunch today, Linda Martinez presented a project proposal (attached to this email) that would involve programming to strengthen attendance and increase interest in the ARC on the part of our visitors and educators. This would be a project that needs several volunteers to help with coordination and planning. The EducationDepartment is fully committed to support this project. All ARC volunteers are encouraged to join us for a meeting to discuss this proposal and make plans on Thursday, August 28 at 5 pm in the ARC. Please let me know if we can count on you to attend that evening. If you like the sound of the proposal and want to be a part of this effort to really help drive ARC interest but cannot attend, please let me know and I will pass on your contact information to Linda.

Thank you,

Hello ARC Volunteers-

As I mentioned in my previous email, we are going to have a lunch get-together to celebrate the completion of the Artist File entries into the catalog. By the time we have this get-together, we may also be celebrating the completion of the cataloging for the children’s books as well!

In order to take full advantage of a great opportunity, we are going to offer a lunch following our Second Tuesday program on August 12:

Illuminating the Word: A Painter’s Perspective

Tuesday, August 12, 10:30 am

One of just three American artists who are part of a Wales-based team illuminating The Saint John’s Bible, Suzanne Moore of Vashon Island discusses the process of working with an international team of artists and the techniques she uses to create her illuminations.

Please RSVP if you can attend:

TAM needs an ARC Volunteer on August 8 from 5-8 pm

Hello ARC Volunteers-

I realized that I still need an ARC volunteer on August 8 from 5 – 8 pm for the Midsummer Night’s Community Festival. There will be calligraphers creating bookmarks in the ARC that evening but it would be good to have an ARC representative to handle questions and to keep an eye out for our space. If you can help that evening, I would be delighted to have one or two of you there. We will be able to play the video that evening too.

Thank you,

-Jana
